Grief and loss are universal experiences that show up across nearly every clinical setting, yet many clinicians receive little formal training in how to support grieving clients. This foundational training builds grief literacy by introducing the Six Tasks of Grief and Mourning (Wolfelt) and presence-based approaches that will increase clinician confidence while reducing the potential for harm caused by misinformation and avoidance.
Designed to help those in the helping professions who are seeking a grounded, non-pathologizing approach, this training equips participants with effective tools and perspectives to confidently companion clients through the grieving process with clarity, skill, and care.
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
• Define and differentiate core grief-related terminology, including grief, loss, mourning, and bereavement, within a clinical context.
• Identify and categorize multiple types of loss, including death-related, non-death, and disenfranchised loss.
• Describe the Six Tasks of Grief and Mourning as a clinical framework for understanding adaptive grief processes.
• Apply task-aligned, presence-based clinical interventions to support adaptive mourning.
• Demonstrate increased clinical confidence when supporting individuals experiencing grief and loss.
